My Goals
Project Overview
The product:
My Goals is designed to help users set, track, and achieve their long-term goals. With personalized reminders and progress tracking, it keeps users motivated and accountable, turning their resolutions into real accomplishments. Whether it's daily, monthly, or yearly goals, My Goals helps users stay focused and on track throughout the year.
Project duration:
November 2023 - February 2024
The problem:
Many people set ambitious New Year’s resolutions but struggle to stay on track throughout the year. Without a system to remind and motivate them, these goals often get forgotten or neglected, leading to frustration and unmet objectives.
The goal:
Create an app that allows users to set, track, and accomplish their goals while offering personalized reminders and encouragement. By keeping users motivated with progress tracking and personalized messages, the app helps them stay focused and on track to complete their resolutions.
Understanding the User
User Research
I conducted user interviews and surveys to learn how people currently track their goals and where they struggle. Most participants used basic tools like notes apps, planners, or calendar reminders, but found them easy to forget or unmotivating.
Key insights included:
A need for simple, step-by-step goal tracking
Personalized reminders to stay consistent
Encouragement to stay motivated over time
Visual progress to feel a sense of achievement
This research highlighted the need for a tool that combines structure with motivation and support.
User Research: Pain Points
1
Forgetting Their Goals
Without regular reminders, users often lose sight of their resolutions after a few weeks.
2
Lack of Motivation
Initial excitement fades, and without encouragement, users struggle to stay consistent.
3
No Sense of Progress
Users feel discouraged when they can't visually track how far they’ve come or how close they are to completing a goal.
4
Measurement
Goals have different ways in which are tracked, and that can be hard to keep up with. Daily, monthly, yearly. So its hard to physically organize tracking and setting goals

Natalie
“I get so wrapped up in client calls that my personal goals slip through the cracks.”
Goals
Wants to see her progress visually
Wants to stay consistent
She wants to feel accomplished and see her wins and keep wanting to achieve more
Frustrations
Forgets about her goals
She feels the goals she wants to make are hard to put on paper and hard to measure, since all of them are measured different
Natalie sets a personal goal to exercise three times a week, but her work schedule quickly fills up with urgent projects. Despite her desire to stay on track, the constant pressure from work leaves her feeling like there’s just no time for herself.

Usability Studies Findings
Round 1 Findings:
Goal Creation felt too long
Preference for wheels in progress visuals
“amount” and “frequency” were too confising, need for a simpler measurement
Round 2 Findings:
A way to make specific goals have notifications
Add helper text in all text entries
Progress felt too crowded, a easier much simpler breakdown of months
Simplify percentage wheel
Mockups
High Fidelity Prototype
Accessibility Considerations
1
Clear labels and instructions were implemented, as well as simplifying the screen and having consistent navigation and repeated elements (like navigation bar) for screen readers.
2
The use in color as a gradient and colored and uncolored marks that represent a negative and a positive instead of relying on green as positive and red as negative.
3
Color contrast against backround. And text size is readable. Icons and progress tracker have a high contrast. buttons are large enough to tick when
Going Forward & Takeaways
Going Forward
Working on this app greatly strengthened my design skills and deepened my UX experience. I learned that with a clear focus on users, any idea has the potential to become a successful, meaningful product. Accessibility is essential, and I’m committed to continuously learning so I can create even better, more inclusive products. As I prepare for high-fidelity testing, I’m focused on ensuring that every user’s needs are addressed, applying everything I’ve learned to create even better future products.
